After 31 Years of service as an Official in Ontario Janice McLaughlin as moved on to retirement leaving a sport where she has contributed at all levels. Janice’s commitment to our sport has influenced all levels of our organization. In addition to her service in Ontario Janice also served as a Canadian National Level Judge for 27 years, a Certified FINA Level G from 2005-2009 and a FINA Level B Judge from 2009-2015.

For over three decades, Janice has been a dedicated and knowledgeable member of the Artistic Swimming world. Janice’s involvement began when her daughter Lynsie joined the sport. Rather than sit on the sidelines Janice dove in and began volunteering in many capacities. In addition to her commitment as a Judge within Ontario and Canada, she obtained her FINA Level G and the B certification and travelled internationally. As a FINA Level Judge, she officiated at Junior World Championships, FINA World Masters, and FINA World Series to name a few but a few competitions.

Janice’s passion and commitment to the sport is evident not only as a judge but in her involvement many committees in both Ontario and Canada.

She was President of Synchro Ontario from 1995-1997, was Synchro Ontario Judges’ Chair from 1990-1993, and Treasurer of Synchro Ontario from 1993-1995. In addition, Janice chaired the High Performance Committee in Ontario from 2009-2013, during which time she also sat on the Hiring Committee for Ontario Provincial Coaches. At the National level, Janice was on the Synchro Canada Management Team from 1998-2000, and from 2005-2009 was the Certification Leader for the Synchro Canada Officials Committee. From 2013-2015, Janice sat on the Synchro Canada Board of Directors.

In 2014 Jan retired from International judging, but remained active in Ontario and Canada. Jan gave freely of her time in the selection process for many of our Provincial Teams and helped identify many talented swimmers who moved up through the ranks of our National Team programs.

For new officials in Ontario Janice was always a positive mentor, offering her experience and knowledge to help many officials develop their judging skills.

In her personal life Jan has long been involved with raising dogs and showing them at many dog shows in Canada. Most recently her dog Brix won Canadian Nationals adding to her many successful wins.

In January 2019 Janice and he husband Jim welcomed their first grandson James to the world. We know that retirement will offer Jan & Jim much cherished time with this wonderful addition to their family.
